The band Katapult was founded in the second half of 1978 by Kuba Fasiński - drums (ex-Skaldowie), Marian Markiel - piano, and Marek Calik - vocals, tenor sax, after a tour of East Germany, West Germany and the Netherlands, where together with Inez Naglicka and Feliks Naglicki they had performed in a group they had jointly founded a year earlier (1977), Safe.

The band was linked with Pagart (the Polish Artistic Agency) and existed in various line-ups for seventeen years, until 1995. Made up of musicians whose musical roots go back to the 1960s, it gave concerts in the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
